Everything is difficult at the beginning, and the same is true for beginners learning electric welding. You must learn the entry-level skills before you can do it with ease. The first step is to learn to adjust the current
The problem of adjusting the current accompanies the entire career of the welder and determines the quality of welding. Beginners should pay enough attention to it.
But today, you don’t have to understand the current problem thoroughly, as long as you have a preliminary understanding.
The method is to adjust the current according to the diameter of the weldment and the electrode.
Generally speaking, for weldments of about 5mm or thicker plates, welding rods with diameters of 2.5, 3.2, and 4.0 are usually used. The current calculation method is: welding rod direct * 40 = welding current.
The second step is hand stability and control skills
Control is the trick of the entire welding process. Basic control includes: hand stability, arc length height, and electrode inclination.

Take flat welding as an example, the current is 130, and the electrode is 3.2.
Hold the welding handle without shaking, and keep moving in a straight line at a constant speed. During the process of moving the electrode, the arc length height can always be kept at 2-3 mm.
The inclination of the electrode (that is, the angle between the electrode and the weldment) is always maintained at 70-80 degrees.
This operation can obtain a smooth, symmetrical and qualified weld.
The third step is to start welding
A good start is half the success. Take the current of 130 and the electrode 3.2 as an example.
When holding the welding handle and knocking the weldment with the electrode to start the arc, pay attention to the electrode to scratch the weldment at an angle, not perpendicular to the weldment, so as to avoid the electrode sticking and thus start the arc smoothly.
Starting welding in this way, all the problems behind will come naturally and logically.
Referring to the above three-step method, usually within ten minutes, even beginners can pick up the welding torch and perform the welding in a professional manner.
Electric welding seems easy, but it is actually very complicated. To understand electric welding, you must not only understand the knowledge of electricity, metal materials, smelting process, coating, chemical composition and gas composition, but also understand various metal materials, welding materials, welding equipment, etc.
