In 2001, with a dream in mind, Qin Shijun entered the Aviation Industry Harbin Aircraft Industry Group Co., Ltd. and became the youngest senior technician of CNC milling in the company in just four years.

Qin Shijun learned CNC technology from scratch because he was worried that he was a graduate of a technical school and would not be as good as his senior brothers and sisters in terms of diplomas.

If you want to be recognized, you must make achievements, and only by making finished products can you break through doubts. After the daily production plan is completed, the machine tool becomes Qin Shijun’s testing ground. Within a square inch, Qin Shijun repeated thousands of times.

In the CNC workshop, Qin Shijun is mainly responsible for the processing of landing gear and rotor parts, which are also directly related to product performance and driver safety. Parts with an error of more than 0.01 mm will be scrapped. 0.01 mm is equivalent to 1/10 of a human hair, so Qin Shijun often said: “The distance between a high-quality product and a waste product is only 0.01 mm.”

After more than a thousand failures, he performed miracles

In a mission, the surface precision of the mating surface of the landing gear system of a key part of a certain model is required to be high, and it is necessary to ensure that the surface roughness is above Ra0.4 (surface roughness).

For many years, this type of precision surface processing method basically adopts boring and then fitter grinding to achieve precision, which is time-consuming and laborious and has poor quality stability. Once in danger, the aircraft will break.

Qin Shijun combined historical data to analyze machine tool accuracy, processing parameters, and cutting tools to find the optimal process plan.

In one month, Qin Shijun experienced more than a thousand failures. In the end, he realized the surface roughness of boring machining accuracy reaching the mirror level of Ra0.13 (surface roughness) to Ra0.18 (surface roughness), which completely solved the problem that has plagued the industry for many years and created a miracle in the field of mechanical processing , surpassed the theoretical limit value, achieved a 100% passing rate of parts for one-time inspection, and increased processing efficiency by nearly three times.

Qin Shijun: The limit I have reached can completely satisfy my current processed products. But my method can be extended to the application of more aerospace high-precision products.

Over the past 20 years, Qin Shijun has grown from an ordinary worker to a well-known expert-type technical talent in the manufacture of rotors, landing gear, and CNC machining parts in the aviation field in my country and a chief technical expert in the aviation industry.

In 2014, the high-skilled talent innovation studio led by Qin Shijun was established, and he led the team to achieve technical breakthroughs one after another. He said that he hopes to cultivate more young people and inject fresh blood into aviation equipment, so that our aviation dream can be realized as soon as possible, and the Chinese manufacturing industry will have more say in the world.
